8. Kungsbacka (the square) – Göteborg (the Central station), ca 63 km

The Kattegattleden runs along bike paths beside the Kungsbacka fjord. The Onsalahalvön peninsula, which is where you are, has exciting maritime history. The king’s privateer, Lars Gathenhielm, is buried at Onsala Church. At the Båt- och Sjöfartsmuseet, the boat and maritime museum just below the church, they know everything about “Lasse in the Street”, who was born in Onsala in 1689. Don’t forget to stop off in Gottskär at the furthest point on the peninsula for a taste of the famous raspberry cake at Jönssons Konditori!

Royalty and Gothenburg’s high society came to Särö for amusement in the early twentieth century. Take an oceanside stroll in the Särö Västerskog nature reserve; once you’ve left the seaside town behind, you’ll reach the railway embankment on the old Säröbanan track that runs along the water. Cliffs, lush forests, bays and little harbours line the trail and there are plenty of places to swim. As you approach central Gothenburg, the trail will take you past Nya Varvet and the Klippan Culture Reserve. Your journey continues along Göta älv, before you reach your destination: the Göteborg Opera and the Lilla Bommen harbour. Welcome to Gothenburg!
