Båstad – Laholm – Halmstad

After the adventurous ride over the ridge and a visit to Båstad, it is time to continue the journey. The Kattegattleden continues with a wonderful and easy-to-cycle stretch to Hemmeslöv. Make a stop here and look back towards Hallandsåsen! Finish the Skåne section of the trail by cycling through the village of Hemmeslöv before the Halland landscape begins to open up.

Once you have crossed the border into Halland, you pedal on parallel to one of Sweden’s longest sandy beaches and through the seaside resorts of Skummeslövstrand and Mellbystrand. Tips for attractions a short distance from the trail (20 minutes from the trail): Skottorps Castle with cheese shop, chocolaterie and café, or Skottorps Stengods where you can try your hand at pottery throwing.

Make a detour and experience the charming town of Laholm, Halland’s oldest, (30 minutes from the trail). Visit the Old Town, the Drawing Museum, watch the salmon fishermen on the beautiful river Lagan or take a trip on the steamboat Lagaholm.

At the end of Mellbystrand lies the Hökafältets nature reserve, where there is a pleasant rest area with toilets, water, a barbecue area and charging points. Once you have cycled through the pine forest of Hökafältet you will reach the viewpoint over Lagaoset, where the river Lagan meets the sea. The sunsets here are fantastic.

The Kattegattleden continues inland towards Gullbranna, and at Laxvik you can make a detour to the unique boulder field at Påarp, an Iron Age burial ground with 220 graves. The trail continues through Trönninge, and at the river Fylleån the “Battle of Halmstad” took place in August 1676. The battle became a turning point in the war over Skåne and Halland. The trail then turns towards Östra stranden and heads into Halmstad city centre, with the stage ending at Halmstad Castle.
