Varberg (Societetssparken) – Kungsbacka (The Square) Route length: approx. 74 km
North of Varberg the landscape changes – the sandy beaches become fewer and smaller, and there are more and more rocks. The first islands begin to appear – Getterön (which has not been an island for a long time), Balgö and Vendelsö, where there is a youth hostel.
Through Frillesås the Kattegattleden runs in mixed traffic and then continues along the old railway embankment, where you can enjoy a car-free stretch along the coast with fantastic views of the sea! In Frillesås there are shops and restaurants. Stop at one of the wonderful sea bathing spots in Åsa, treat yourself to an ice cream at the ice cream café or enjoy a coffee at the bakery.
Take the opportunity to make a detour to Tjolöholm Castle – Sweden’s only castle in Tudor style – and then continue to Fjärås Bräcka. Take a well-deserved break and enjoy the view over both sea and lake, or feel the breath of history among the 100 standing stones at the Li burial ground! At the Naturum Fjärås Bräcka you can have a coffee and refill your water. With Fjärås Bräcka behind you, cycle along small roads in mixed traffic and on cycle paths along fields, between horse farms and through built-up areas. Stop at Rolfsbron in Hanhals, a beautiful stone arch bridge from the 17th century.
In Kungsbacka the route follows cycle paths through the town. Kungsbacka is one of the largest trading centres in western Sweden. The genuine and traditional still lives on side by side with the new and modern shopping centres. The town centre offers a cosy atmosphere with cafés, restaurants and shops.
